Saudi Arabian terrorist and leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda, Bin Laden was critical in the planning and execution of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Bin Laden went into hiding shortly after 9/11, though he continued to control al-Qaeda for much of the 2000s. U.S. soldiers shot and killed him in 2011.
