Mia's great aunt, and the sister of Gran. Great Aunt Glo died some years before the accident, and requested that her ashes be scattered in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. While Mia is in a coma, Gran goes on a walk and sees a crossbill, a rare bird in that part of Oregon. Gran believes that the bird is a reincarnation of Glo that has returned to show support for Mia.
