Mr. Schmidt Character Analysis

Sweetheart to Friederike. Mr. Schmidt is intensely jealous of Friederike’s time and dislikes others, especially Werther, talking to her. His ill-humor is the cause of a lengthy conversation between Lotte, Werther, and the Vicar’s Wife. Ironically, Werther condemns Schmidt’s mood, though his own mood will sour for much of the novel.
