Justus Kröger Character Analysis in Buddenbrooks

Justus Kröger is Bethsy’s cousin. Bethsy appoints Justus Clara’s guardian after Consul Buddenbrook’s death. Like all Krögers, Justus is a lavish spender and enjoys the finer things in life. Even so, he is deeply disappointed in his sons, Jakob and Jurgen, for how little they’ve amounted to in life. When Jakob moves to the United States and apparently becomes a traveling salesman, Justus effectively disowns him.
