Caleb Williams: Volume 3, Chapter 14 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Later, Caleb discovers why the inhabitants of the Welsh village suddenly began to shun him from their community: Falkland has hired Jones to follow Caleb wherever he goes, spreading criminal accusations against him, to ensure his reputation is ruined no matter where he tries to seek refuge. Caleb refuses to live in disguise anymore, but he does change his name. However, not even that drastic measure helps him evade Jones. He continues moving from place to place, unable to settle anywhere for long.
Falkland uses every tool at his disposal, no matter how immoral, to further torment Caleb. By continuously spreading lies to frame Caleb as a criminal, Falkland distorts Caleb’s reality until he’s forced to live a lie under a false identity once more. This unending persecution is cruel and excessive, highlighting how despicable Falkland’s tyranny is.
