Adline is Anne’s younger sister and the second oldest of the siblings. Though she and Anne don’t share many interests, Adline is Anne’s closest sibling, and the two live together in New Orleans as young women. Adline is closer to the rest of the family than Anne is. Towards the end of the memoir, Adline expresses that, though she has never been as talented in school as Anne, she is inspired by Anne to think about getting a college education.
