(KKK) – The Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacist terrorist organization. The first iteration of the Klan was founded after the Civil War with the goal of maintaining white supremacy after slavery. The original Klan functioned as a vigilante group, terrorizing Black freed people. After the original iteration of the KKK faded away in the late 19th century, it was revived in 1915. The KKK carried out violent hate crimes against Black people during the civil rights movement. Many of the white people in Anne’s life are affiliated with the KKK, including Mrs. Burke and her “guild.”
