Dr. James Young Character Analysis

Dr. James Young is deceased in the novel’s present; he was an esteemed, western-educated neurologist and Su Yi’s husband. While most people talk about Dr. Young in terms of his family’s immense wealth, Dr. Gu’s memories make it clear that Dr. Young was way more than his money. He served as a doctor during World War II and helped save other young Chinese doctors, Dr. Gu among them.
