Kao Wei was the young man whom Kerry fell in love with while she lived in an apartment with her abusive husband, Fang Min—and Kao Wei is also Rachel’s biological father. Kao Wei isn’t aware of this, however. He helped Kerry escape Fang Min’s abuse and after Rachel’s birth, helped her flee her in-laws’ house. Kerry explains that she didn’t tell him Rachel was his daughter because she didn’t want to jeopardize his bright future.
