Nick Hawley-Gamer is one of Michelle’s classmates in Eugene, Oregon. Michelle is drawn to Nick because of his middle-school dating history, his punk look (he paints his nails with Wite-out), and the local band he used to play with. Though Michelle at first pokes fun at Nick, he ultimately proves to be a caring friend and patient music teacher, making him another figure who makes Michelle realize that people are never exactly what they seem to be.
