Chapter 3
Explanation and Analysis:
The narrator's tone is very prominent in Daniel Deronda, leaning toward the psychoanalytical and philosophical, prone to deliberating deeply on each character's motivations and mental faculties. While one should not always presume that the narrator's tone reflects the author's personal thoughts, the narrator of Daniel Deronda reflects on character motivations as an author might. Once could easily imagine Eliot herself narrating the novel, guiding readers through an analysis of each character.
