Tommy Red Character Analysis

Tommy Red is Dumby and Clarence’s father. He is cheerful and friendly. After the grand final football game, he drinks at the front bar of the pub instead of the back bar with the rest of the indigenous patrons. The white patrons of the pub believe that Tommy is one of the few good residents of the Point, showing how discriminatory communities can hold up one person as a “model minority.” Tommy’s good reputation, however, can’t protect his family from racist violence, as shown by the murder of his son, Dumby.
