Devil in a Blue Dress

Detective Mason Character Analysis

Detective Mason is Detective Miller’s junior partner. Short and plump, Mason’s quick temper and frequent use of racial slurs paint him as a man with little self-control or empathy. Easy likens him to a “trained mutt,” observing how Mason blindly follows Miller’s lead. Mason and Miller confront Easy twice, questioning him without any solid evidence. Though Mason’s physical intimidation and racial epithets speak to his eagerness to abuse his position of power, his reliance on Miller’s direction ultimately underscores his lack of independent thought or strategy.
