Eunice helps Mike arrange “America the Beautiful,” which he is more familiar with on piano, for harmonica. Mr. Potter also helps him add some blues to his performance. Over time, Eunice begins calling Mike “my student” and even hugs him once.
Eunice continues to avoid taking on the role of mother for Mike and Frankie, perhaps because the memory of Henry is still too painful. But her involvement in instructing Mike shows that she is increasingly taking on the responsibilities of a parent.
