Des’s Father Character Analysis

Des’s father is a lighthearted man who glosses over Des’s criminality, affectionately deeming him “a bit of a naughty boy” and suggesting that it’s Michelle’s job to look out for him. The story briefly suggests that Des’s mother and father have a similar dynamic where the woman is expected to take care of the man: Michelle thinks back to a barbeque where Des, his brother Kyle, and their father lazily sat around in lawn chairs while Des’s mother scurried around bringing the men food and beer.
