Renée Character Analysis

Renée is Chet’s late wife, Bryce’s grandmother, and Patsy’s mother. Though she doesn’t appear directly in the novel, Chet likens her headstrong, passionate spirit to Juli’s. In this sense, Renée is a kind of spiritual predecessor to Juli, and Chet’s deep love and admiration for her foreshadows Bryce’s eventual realization of his own feelings for Juli.
