The Gastons Character Analysis

The Gastons were a family on the South Side of Chicago who, in 2010, had to be literally rescued from all the trash in their home because they were compulsive hoarders. Though their situation might seem extreme, in fact, they generated no more trash than a normal family—they just didn’t hide it as well as most people do. The Gastons provide a vivid, visual example of the 102 tons of trash that every American generates in a lifetime.
