Rutherford Selig Character Analysis

Rutherford Selig is a traveling salesman who often visits Aunt Ester’s house. He frequently tells the people in Aunt Ester’s household about what’s going on in the community, giving them updates on the latest gossip and events. When Caesar comes after Solly for burning down the mill, Aunt Ester asks Selig to smuggle Solly to Alabama in his wagon. Because he trusts Aunt Ester so much and thinks she’s always in the right, he agrees to transport Solly, putting himself at risk in order to carry out Aunt Ester’s request.
