Half Broke Horses: Style 1 key example

Chapter 3
Explanation and Analysis:

Half-Broke Horses is written in a no-nonsense style, with descriptions and emotional passages meant to directly explain Lily's experiences to the reader instead of focusing on the language used in the narrative, as would be typical of more literary novels. In the author's note, Walls explained that she wanted to capture Lily's style of speaking through the narration: "I wrote the story in the first person because I wanted to capture Lily’s distinctive voice, which I clearly recall."
