Vasnetsova is a young typist who appears briefly at the beginning and end of the book. In the opening scene, she rushes out of the government cafeteria into the winter and gives Sharik his name. Later, Sharikov manipulates her into working for him by falsely claiming to be a war hero. Philip tells her the truth and promises to use his influence to protect her from Sharikov. Her poverty and relationship with Sharikov represent the way the Bolshevik government deceives women and young people.
