Mrs. Candy is the Jessup family’s sharp, sarcastic housekeeper. Hardworking, reliable, and socially aware, she contrasts strongly with both the bitter Shad Ledue and the uninformed Emma Jessup. She eventually joins the New Underground, and after the Jessup family breaks up, she starts working for (and spying on) Francis Tasbrough instead.
