Summary
Analysis
Aubrey attends another meeting with Amy Carlisle. She’s started to enjoy the meetings, and this time she happily accepts Amy’s offer of M&Ms. She opens up a bit more when Amy asks her how she’s been adjusting to living at Gram’s. When Aubrey admits to feeling a little annoyed at Gram for trying to be her parent, Amy suggests Aubrey try to do some kind of “grandmother-granddaughter” activity with Gram.
Though Aubrey declined the offer at her first session with Amy, Aubrey now accepts Amy’s offer of M&Ms. This small gesture shows how comfortable Aubrey has become around Amy. She trusts her more than she once did and is now willing to open up about her emotions, as evidenced by Aubrey’s confession about her annoyance with Gram.

At dinner on Friday, Aubrey asks Gram if they can do something fun this weekend. Gram suggests they go to the Rolla Rink, which Aubrey used to love. Aubrey agrees, so that’s what they do. Gram helps Aubrey get the hang of the skates, and eventually Aubrey’s muscle memory kicks in. Gram is more cautious, afraid that she’ll fall—and eventually, she does. She’s okay, though, and she even starts to laugh. Aubrey laughs too, and she falls on her knees next to Gram.
It further demonstrates Aubrey’s new trust in Amy that she actually tries to put Amy’s advice into practice, taking Amy up on her suggestion that Aubrey try to do a “grandmother-granddaughter” activity with Gram. And though their night of skating has a rocky start, Aubrey and Gram ultimately have a great time together.

But the “magic” of Aubrey’s good mood wears off when she returns home and finds that there are no voicemail messages on Gram’s phone. She trudges upstairs, her mood soured. That evening, Aubrey writes a letter to Amy to thank her for the idea of doing something fun with Gram, even though she doesn’t think it really changed anything.
