Joselito Character Analysis

Joselito is a man who is addicted to drugs and comes down with a cough that can likely be attributed to tuberculosis. His friend Carl accompanies him to multiple sanitariums to treat his illness. At the end of the vignette, Carl himself nearly overdoses outside of a sanitarium and starts to hallucinate. When Carl regains consciousness, he notices a group of boys are calling out to him from the street. The boys address him as “Joselito,” suggesting that Carl and Joselito may perhaps be same person, though the narration doesn’t explicitly confirm this.
