Explanation and Analysis:
The mood of Noli Me Tangere, like much postcolonial literature, includes much righteous indignation on behalf of the oppressed people depicted in the novel. In this case, shame, pity, and anger on behalf of the Philippines and its people, oppressed by the Spanish, largely define the novel's mood. In this respect, the most pitiful and moving characters in the novel are Sisa and her sons, who are depicted as beautiful and morally good, but pushed aside by the colonial powers of the church and the government. This injustice is central to the mood.
