Cassio does not die in Othello. Although Iago arranges an ambush against him and has Roderigo attack him, Cassio survives. During the fight, Cassio wounds Roderigo, and Iago secretly stabs Cassio in the leg from behind before fleeing. Cassio is injured, but he remains alive.
A key part of the tragedy is that Othello mistakenly believes Cassio has been killed. Hearing Cassio's cries from a distance, Othello assumes Iago has carried out the murder and is encouraged to proceed with his plan to kill Desdemona. In reality, Cassio survives and later appears in the final scene, where the truth about Iago's plot is uncovered.
By the end of the play, Cassio is one of the few major characters still alive. After Iago's schemes are exposed, Lodovico announces that Cassio will take charge and oversee Iago's punishment.
