Remarkably Bright Creatures

by Shelby Van Pelt

Tatum Character Analysis

Tatum is Laura’s daughter and Mary Ann’s granddaughter. When she became a mother at 18, she relied on her family for support, with Laura helping her daughter raise the child. Though she never appears in person in the novel, Tatum’s background inadvertently helps Tova understand why Daphne made the decisions she did with Cameron. She understands that not all young mothers are fortunate enough to have the kind of support that Tatum received, and some are forced to make impossible choices to keep their children safe.
