Annie Character Analysis

Annie is a girl in the grade above Shuggie when he lives in Pithead. She stands up for Shuggie one day when he is being bullied. Annie brings Shuggie home, where she tells him that she knows he is “odd” and allows him to play with her toy ponies. The two discuss their parents’ alcoholism and the sexual contact they’ve had with some of the boys in the neighborhood. Shuggie dislikes Annie’s candor and steals two of her ponies, which he later buries in a field.
