Spectacular Things: Chapter 44 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Mia and Cricket talk on the phone frequently while Cricket is at school, and Mia feels that the distance brings them closer together. Now that Cricket is out of the house, Oliver comes to Mia’s more frequently. Mia and Oliver plan for Oliver to move in once his lease is up, but they haven’t told Cricket about that plan yet. Mia then tells Oliver that he’s the only person, aside from Cricket, who has been able to make her happy since Liz died.
Again, this passage underlines the way that Mia attempts to take on a supportive role for Cricket in part by avoiding possible confrontations with Cricket. However, at the same time, Mia also seems to be learning to prioritize herself, as she continues to pursue her relationship with Oliver despite the possible discomfort it might cause Cricket.
