Khadija Character Analysis

Khadija is the boab’s wife. During their first night in Cairo, she, the boab, Mrs. Luqman, Sumayyah, Amatullah, and Imani all sit down to an elaborate meal she prepares. During the meal, Khadija asks them if they have Egyptian heritage. Mrs. Luqman replies in the affirmative and states that they are all descendants of “the people of ancient Kemet, Hotep,” referring to Egypt as the origin place of Black people. Khadija laughs, but it is clear she has no idea what Mrs. Luqman is talking about.
