Explanation and Analysis:
Spanning an immense geographic and temporal scope, The Aeneid is set across the Mediterranean world. Reminiscent of The Odyssey, the first half of the poem takes place on various islands and in various territories between Asia Minor and Italy—as well as on board the Trojans' ships. The second half of the poem also features a fair bit of movement, but the action of the last six books mainly takes place in and around Latium. In most of the books, the narrator also mentions events taking place on Mount Olympus when recounting the actions and conversations of the gods.
