Mrs. Horrocks Character Analysis

Mrs. Horrocks, who works in the filing department, is among the employees the Narrator must fire. Mrs. Horrocks primarily serves as a foil for Singlebury. Unlike Singlebury, who receives his notice without complaint, Mrs. Horrocks resists, inquiring into severance pay. Similarly, while Singlebury quietly disappears after his last day, Mrs. Horrocks continues to call and visit the office repeatedly despite no longer working there.
