The Beach: Chapter 14 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Richard has another dream in which Daffy Duck appears. This time, the dream is so vivid that it feels like a vision. In the dream, Richard and Daffy Duck are trying to get out of a place full of chaotic crowds, hoping to take a helicopter from the roof of an embassy.
In this dream, Richard imagines the end of the Vietnam War, which was a chaotic scene that involved people leaving in helicopters. Richard didn’t experience the war himself, and so his dream is based on media like films and old news footage.
