Fache sprints to the bathroom. On the walkie talkie, Collet reports that Langdon’s GPS dot is moving fast, meaning he must be in a car. Through the broken bathroom window, Fache sees a large delivery truck whose bed is covered in a tarp. Presuming Langdon jumped onto it, Fache orders the agents outside to pursue the truck. Close by, Langdon and Sophie are hidden behind a partition. Moments before, Sophie had embedded Langdon’s GPS tracker in a bar of soap before using a trash can to break the window, triggering the alarm. After she lobs the soap onto the truck bed stopped at the red light below, they hide, barely missing Fache. Sophie congratulates Langdon on escaping the Louvre.
Sophie’s quick thinking and awareness of police protocol buy her and Langdon some more time to solve Saunière’s clues. Fache falls for the ruse, which seems to confirm Langdon’s guilt, suggesting Fache doesn’t yet realize Sophie is helping the symbologist. This is an example of how biases can make a person easier to manipulate because they are too eager to have their assumptions confirmed.
