Chang Weisi Character Analysis

Chang Weisi is Zhang Beihai’s first supervisor in the space force. Chang Weisi admires but is also flummoxed by Zhang Beihai’s implacable faith in humans’ inevitable success over the Trisolarans. Because Chang Weisi cannot find an explanation for Zhang Beihai’s faith, he ultimately begins to question Zhang Beihai’s sincerity and sends a letter to his successor warning him of the possible danger that Zhang Beihai might pose. Because Chang Weisi’s letter is subtle, though, his warning goes unheeded, and Zhang Beihai succeeds in hijacking a spacecraft and fulfilling his defeatist aims.
