The Battle of Darkness is a battle between the ship that Zhang Beihai hijacks as part of his escapist plan, the Natural Law, and the ships in the fleet that Natural Law is traveling with. The battle illustrates the principles of cosmic sociology, as each ship ostensibly feels compelled to attack others because they want to survive in a world with limited communication and finite resources, mirroring the circumstances that Luo Ji describes in the dark forest theory.
