The Snow Project is a plan put in place by the SFJC to try and keep track of the Trisolaran fleet by measuring that fleet’s progress through areas of interstellar dust. In place of having Luo Ji pursue his Wallfacer plan, the SFJC enlists him to work on the Snow Project. Luo Ji then uses that project to place bombs in space at carefully calibrated distances so that if they were to detonate, they would broadcast the location of the Trisolaran fleet into the universe, thereby virtually guaranteeing the destruction of that fleet (while also alerting extraterrestrial civilizations of Earth’s location and guaranteeing Earth’s destruction as well). After presenting that information to the Trisolarans, the Trisolarans stand down and meet humanity’s demands.
