Explanation and Analysis—Gilgamesh's Death:
There is a dark irony inherent to Gilgamesh's death: despite being more god than man, Gilgamesh cannot avoid the fate all mortals share. As Enlil puts it, "You were given the kingship, such was your destiny, everlasting life was not your destiny." Or as the people of Uruk say after Gilgamesh's death in Part 7:
The king has laid himself down and will not rise again, [...]
He overcame evil, he will not come again;
Though he was strong of arm he will not rise again[.]
