Explanation and Analysis:

The Epic of Gilgamesh's lack of a traditional author makes understanding the origins of its style somewhat difficult. Originally passed down orally, The Epic of Gilgamesh was eventually transcribed onto tablets, of which we have uncovered three different versions written hundreds of years apart. The most complete version of the story, the standard version, was written by scribe Sîn-lēqi-unninni circa 1200 B.C.E. using older source material. However, the story was almost certainly not written by any one person, having instead been told many times in many different ways.
