The Great Automatic Grammatizator

by Roald Dahl
In “Mrs. Bixby and the Colonel’s Coat,” Miss Pulteney is Mr. Bixby’s young, attractive secretary. Though she does not appear until the end of the story, she unwittingly delivers the final twist. Mrs. Bixby spends the entire story obsessed with the luxurious mink coat given to her as a parting gift by the Colonel, only to discover that Mr. Bixby has gifted the coat to Miss Pulteney instead. As she walks past Mrs. Bixby while wearing the coat, it becomes clear that Mr. Bixby has been unfaithful—an irony not lost on Mrs. Bixby, who never imagined her husband capable of conducting a secret affair.
