The Forest Guard Character Analysis

The forest service guard is ordered to accompany Piya on her survey of the Sundarbans. Though he seems reasonable at first (despite his required firearm), he soon shows Piya that he's not to be trusted. Piya watches him prey on local fishermen, and when Piya falls overboard, the guard seems relatively unconcerned. He also forces her to pay him a great sum of money in order to be able to leave.
