The Last Cuentista: Chapter 29 Summary & Analysis

Summary
Analysis
Petra tries to tell Voxy to stay with the shuttle so that the Chancellor can find him and bring him back to safety. Voxy begs her to let him come with her, explaining that after witnessing the Chancellor’s actions toward Petra, he no longer wants any part in the Collective. Instead, he wants to stay with Petra and listen to her cuentos. In Voxy, Petra sees the little brother who was taken from her too soon. She agrees to let him come. The group suits up and makes their way to the cave. There, Petra discovers that animals have eaten the food she stashed. With no food, she urges the group to move on to the “research site” right away.
Petra’s cuentos have reached Voxy’s inner compassion and made him unable to tolerate the cruelty of the Collective when faced with it head-on. It’s possible that the story of Blancaflor stuck with him and influenced his decision to flee his own kingdom. Petra has grown fond of Voxy, too, and he partially fills the void that Javier has left. With Voxy, Petra can almost start over as a big sister again. It isn’t the family she expected, but it’s a version of family that brings her comfort.

Quotes
Suma grows suspicious of Petra and moves to call the Chancellor to confirm their orders. Seeing no other choice, Petra pulls her aside and shows her the relics she stole from the seed vault. As she looks at items from her own past, Suma gradually remembers who she is. Petra explains the situation, and Suma agrees to cooperate. Together, the group starts toward the settlement. As they walk, Voxy tells Petra that as she was being loaded into the pod, Javier whispered in his ear that it wasn’t yet the end of her story.
