The Mousetrap
by Agatha Christie
Leslie Margaret Katherine Casewell is one of the guests staying at Monkswell Manor. She’s a 24-year-old woman with a direct and authoritative demeanor, which makes the other characters perceive her as masculine. While she’s highly private about herself and her background, she reveals that she grew up in England and then moved abroad at the age of 13. Now, she’s visiting England on an important errand, but she’s reluctant to specify what this errand is. Miss Casewell also divulges that she had a difficult, unhappy childhood. Her response to her painful memories is to never look back to the past, and she uses sheer willpower to move forward in life. Nevertheless, Miss Casewell remembers her traumatic past vividly. She is actually Kathy Corrigan, the second of the three children abused by Maureen and John Stanning at Longridge Farm. At the end of the play, she stops Georgie Corrigan, her older brother, from killing Mollie by revealing her true identity. After reconnecting with Georgie, she promises to bring him somewhere to get the care he needs.
