Explanation and Analysis:
As a Gothic horror story, the mood of “The Old Nurse’s Story” is eerie, suspenseful, and frightening. While the story starts out in a somewhat lighthearted place, it becomes more and more unsettling as Miss Rosamond’s parents both die, Hester and Miss Rosamond move to the “desolate” Manor House, and ghosts start to appear, playing haunting songs on the organ and luring Miss Rosamond out into the cold (such that she nearly freezes to death).
