What information does Cherry reveal to the greasers?

In The Outsiders, Cherry reveals that the Socs plan to fight the rumble by greaser rules and will not use weapons. She gives this information to Ponyboy and Two-Bit when they find her waiting in her Corvette at the vacant lot before the rumble.

Cherry’s help goes beyond that one warning. After Bob’s death, she acts as a link between the two groups by keeping track of the Socs’ preparations. Dally also tells Ponyboy and Johnny that Cherry has been helping the greasers because she feels partly responsible for the events that led to Bob’s stabbing, and that she is willing to say Johnny acted in self-defense.

Her position is complicated because she is still a Soc and Bob’s girlfriend. When Ponyboy asks her to visit Johnny in the hospital, she refuses because Johnny killed Bob. Ponyboy gets angry, then begins to understand that Cherry’s sympathy for the greasers does not erase her grief for Bob. Their exchange about being able to see the sunset from their respective sides of town brings them back to the common ground they found earlier: Cherry can see it from the West Side, and Ponyboy can see it from the East Side.

Cherry’s information helps the greasers prepare for the rumble, but her role also shows how fragile the line between the two gangs can be. She helps Ponyboy see that loyalty, grief, and fairness do not fit neatly inside the labels Soc and greaser.
