What side of town do the greasers live on?

The greasers live on the East Side of town in The Outsiders. Ponyboy explains the class divide directly when he says that Socs are “the Socials, the jet set, the West-side rich kids,” while “greaser” is the term “used to class all us boys on the East Side.”

That East Side/West Side split marks the greasers as poorer and less privileged than the Socs. In Ponyboy’s neighborhood, teenagers walk instead of drive, live in fear of being jumped, and are judged by their appearance, especially their greaser hair.
