Who is the spy for the greasers?

Cherry Valance acts as a spy for the greasers in The Outsiders. After Bob’s death, Cherry feels responsible for what happened and wants to prevent more violence, so she agrees to help the greasers. She watches the Socs and shares information about their plans for the rumble, essentially acting as a go-between for the two groups. This role fits her personality: she is open-minded and able to see both sides, often reminding Ponyboy that “things are rough all over,” which shows her empathy for both Socs and greasers.

Her position is complicated, though. She remains loyal to the Socs, refusing to visit Johnny in the hospital because he killed Bob, but still helps the greasers by passing along information.
