Seyton Combe is one of the Dukes Spiritual—he’s the Duke of Courtesy—and he’s Sabran’s spymaster. Known as the Night Hawk, Combe ostensibly knows everything going on at the Inysh court and regularly meddles in people’s business. Though Ead suspects him of working against Sabran, he’s actually extremely loyal to his queen. While he at times takes questionable actions, and ones that Sabran doesn’t like—such as banishing Loth and Ead—he does so believing he’s protecting Sabran. However, he misses entirely the fact that Igrain Crest is and has been conspiring against Sabran and conspired against Queen Rosarian before her. He ultimately admits that his blind spot was believing that the people who were supposed to be loyal to Sabran—like the Dukes Spiritual, of which Igrain was one—would be as loyal as he himself is.

Explanation and Analysis:
The Donmata Marosa, Princess of Yscalin, has just revealed to Loth how Fýredel took over Yscalin by infecting her already evil father, King Sigoso, with a form of the Draconic plague. She also reveals that Sigoso was behind Queen Rosarian’s murder 14 years ago—long before Yscalin’s Draconic takeover. This is a huge shock for Loth, as it begins to upend his understanding of what makes a person good or evil. Prior to this moment, Loth has a fairly simplistic understanding of good and evil. In his mind, those who accept the Six Virtues (like King Sigoso did prior to Yscalin’s Dolorem et quae. Exercitationem non aut. Eveniet dolor non. Incidunt dolores sunt. Ad dolor at.
