The Priory of the Orange Tree

The Priory of the Orange Tree

by Samantha Shannon
Roslain Crest is one of Sabran’s Ladies of the Bedchamber and is Igrain Crest’s granddaughter. Roslain is kind and fiercely devoted to Sabran. She’s at first wary of allowing Ead into the ladies’ confidence, but she eventually comes to see Ead as an ally. Roslain’s loyalty comes to the forefront when Igrain Crest, believing Sabran unworthy to rule, attempts to usurp power from Sabran and put Roslain on the throne instead. Roslain fights back against her grandmother, even breaking her fingers to try and stop Igrain from smothering Sabran. Upon Igrain’s execution, Roslain is named the next Duchess of Justice.

Chapter 34 Quotes

She had never been meant to harbour anything more than indifference towards this woman. Yet she knew now that when Chassar returned, it would be hard to go. Sabran would need a friend more than ever. Roslain and Katryen would be preoccupied with the newborn, and would talk of nothing but blankets and cradles and milk nurses for months. Sabran would not weather that time well. She would go from being the sun of her court to the shadow behind a child.
