Chief Inspector Steven Allen is the detective in charge of solving the attempted murder of Alicia Berenson. Though he initially suspects Christian West of the crime, after he reads Alicia’s diary, Inspector Allen shifts his attention to Theo. In the closing scene of The Silent Patient, Allen arrives at Theo’s house, presumably to arrest him.

As I listened, I looked up at the white clouds drifting past. Finally, they had opened—it had started to snow—snowflakes were falling outside. I opened the window and reached out my hand. I caught a snowflake. I watched it disappear, vanish on my fingertip. I smiled.
