Diego Cienfuegos Character Analysis

Diego Cienfuegos is an influential socialist Congressman who eventually becomes a Minister and helps pass an important peace treaty. Early in his career, Clarisa appeals to him to donate to an order of nuns who oppose him politically, arguing that the nuns’ service to the poor would pay him back in the end. Cienfuegos and Clarisa become close, and he continues to take her advice and donate to the causes she suggests. At some point, Cienfuegos fathers Clarisa’s third and fourth children out of wedlock, but their tryst remains a secret until Eva Luna puts the pieces together.
